Dupont Forest

Getting ready for another great ride.

Even though the trees are bare, there is a carpet of leaves. It's 55* with partly cloudy skys.
Through the bare trees we can see the layers of mountains forever and ever. It smells so fresh. The birds and the sound of the horses complete the symphony.
Shellsea is studing the trail map. Cashmere doesn't look like she cares. She just loves to trail ride.
The covered bridge over a rushing water fall.
Look up Dupontforest.com to see good pics of waterfalls. I forgot a lead line, so we couldn't get to view spots. Maybe next time

Christmas vacation fun

What a Beautiful Day !! We went exploring at the Dupont. See new saddle ? Horses & trails were great. We can't wait to go back.

Tubing at Moonshine Mountain ! I love this. We went at 4 Pm so that hill would ice up by 5. It Did ! The attendents were a lot of fun, we went down in twist - that makes you DIZZY - backwards, stomach, train. It wasn't crowded, so
we had 2 hours of FUN . I could do this some more too !!

Christmas 05

Shellsea thought Teddy looked good in this cute nightgown . He looked so funny tring to waddle out of it !

Thank you all for this saddle. We got this with the $ you sent. Now we feel safer on the trails. Fenix can be a bit of a bucking bronco, this give me something to hang on to.
Christmas tree pis always look the same, because you can't record the "feeling". We had a beautiful tree this year, with a fire in the fireplace and a wreath over the mantel & the porch lights reflecting in, it was magical . My new house was fun to decorate.

Christmas Eve

Shellsea needed Fenix to cross a muddy ditch - he didn't do it - Especially after he saw her get all muddy. He said "No Way"

I really like the way they do winter here in NC. It's been beautiful ! Almost 60 * dry with bright blue skys.

We were able to join a group and learn a new trail riding area. Lots of fun

I didn't even know Fenix would cross a river. He did just fine. Of course I had more confidence because the rest of the group went in front of me.

Ice Storm

The ice was this thick on everything !! Including my car !

.
This was the view from my porch
Icecicles were EVERWHERE, these decorated my porch.

We lost about 1/3 of our beautiful maple tree
this is before
Hard to really photgraph, but this is after.
Shellsea helped cut tree up, and drag to drive way. I don't know what we will do with it from here.

Shellsea

Just a fun photo shoot. Can you believe this kid is growing up so fast ??

Merry Christmas to all

The poetry chair

Shellsea worked so hard on this assignment -- you just have to see. She sanded and painted this chair, then burned the poems in and added the visuals. Isn't it cool !!

Biltmore Ride

We FINALLY did it !! My day of glory ! I've been waiting for this since August. Broken bones, weather, missing horses couldn't stop me.

Our ride yesterday at the Biltmore Estate was perfect. We rode through 3 hours of marked trails. The ride sponcers had jumps placed all along the way, I wanted to jump them in the worse way, but I am still to scared. Unfortunantly the scenery is really pretty gray with all the trees bare. The experience is still fun. Fenix was great. Cashmere couldn't stop acting stupid, Shellsea had to fight with her to keep her back, she want to get to quick --- She'll learn. If anyone can straighten her out, it' s Shellsea. I am so proud of the whole event. Both horses went easily into the trailer, the traffic was sane, even passing Christmas mall shopping, we had all the tack we need, and back ups, the weather was crisp and dry. It was GREAT !! I can't wait to go again, and now that we know we can do it, we will take off on independent rides. Maybe next weekend we can ride the Dupont !
